Devlog 008: Zechariah's Song

ScriptureLuke 1:67–80

Night 10, in grey box: simple shapes, before any final art.

Tonight’s passage

Luke 1:67–80: Zechariah is filled with the Holy Spirit and prophesies, and the child grows in the wilderness.

because of the tender mercy of our God, by which the Dawn will visit us from on high, to shine on those who live in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the path of peace. (Luke 1:78–79)

Next Fest moves to launch

Eyewitness enters Steam Next Fest once, at launch: the February 2033 edition, the last before the Easter 2033 release, because Valve allows one Next Fest per game. Chapter One still comes out free in December 2027. We changed it in our docs and in Devlog 007, which now carries a note.

The scene checks out

Through the Unreal MCP, a read-only look at the Holy Place: 327 actors in the engine, and 319 of them in the scene. The other 8 are hidden ones the engine adds itself. The count matched to the last one.

What we decided

  • Every text the series draws on is labeled as what it is, because not every book carries the same reliability: Scripture (the 66 books, BSB), deuterocanon (what Protestants call the Apocrypha), Ethiopian canon only (1 Enoch, Jubilees, 1–3 Meqabyan), ancient writings that aren’t Scripture (the Pseudepigrapha, the Gnostic texts), historical sources, and our choice.
  • Game Three covers the letters and how the New Testament came together.
  • Backers get a say in the build, and Scripture is never up for a vote.

The machines

The laptop has a 16-core i7-14650HX, an 8 GB RTX 5060 Laptop GPU and 16 GB of RAM. The tower has a 6-core Ryzen 5 3600X, 32 GB of DDR4 and a 4 GB GTX 1650 on a B450 AORUS M. Epic recommends 32 GB of RAM and 8 GB or more of graphics memory for Unreal 5.8.

The Gospel Points

Isaiah 59:1–2; 2 Corinthians 10:4–5; Luke 7:47; Luke 23:41–43; Galatians 1:10, 1:23 and 6:7; Revelation 3:15–16; 1 Peter 3:15.
